Need Help ?

You are not alone

There's a lot of theory, discussion and research about this thing sometimes called Mental Illness.

We know it can come down, sometimes, to the middle of the night,  the middle of a crowd, or the middle of your family, YOU in confusion and chaos, knowing you've GOT to do certain things and simultaneously that you can't do them.

Because your'e worn out, or because something Other is intruding on your life, or because people won't let you, or medication prevents...

Still Standing!

I can't tell you what to do.

What I can say is that thousands, millions of us face similar challenges and have found ways through.

There ARE ways through.

  • In the short term, if you read this and feel overwhelmed right now, look for help where you can find it - local crisis services, whatever you need to get through.
  • Longer term, There are helpers out there that really 'get it', who will listen, try to understand and walk with you on the journey. Find them.
  • Some of us find that medication keeps disturbing or dangerous parts of our experience ('symptoms') away, in the short or long term, and that is what they want(I am one of those people).Others do not find that. Consider talking to a good doctor.
  • Many also find it is important to  talk to other Experienced people and share mutual experiences and strategies for dealing with the Other that intrudes; voices, thoughts, compulsion. See if there is a 'consumer led' Hearing voices or Beyond Beliefgroup in you locale.
  • If your problems are more 'in the outside world', how you are treated get in touch with your local 'consumer/survivor' advocacy groups such as http://www.mindfreedom.org/go/alt
You really are not alone.

Bring Change 2 Mind - www.bringchange2mind.org

1 in 6 adults and almost 1 in 10 children suffer from a diagnosable mental illness. Yet, for many, the stigma associated with the illness, can be as great a challenge as the disease itself. This is where the misconceptions stop. This is where bias comes to an end. This is where we change lives. Because this is where we Bring Change 2 Mind.
